"The development of independent movies accelerated by the digital medium has enabled filmmakers to produce at tremendously low costs. As a consequence there are loads of good features that are sometimes produced by people without having attended film academies, acting courses or script clinics. Unfortunately, most of them never make it to the big screen, to TV or to a DVD release, because established institutions are overrun by the mass of productions.

RADAR HAMBURG´s mission is to kick that door wide open for small and independent productions. RADAR will screen about 100 films from 2nd to 7th November 2009, which will compete in the traditional categories: Fiction, Documentaries, Shorts, Art and Animations. It is no coincidence that the quarter St Pauli has been chosen as the main location. On the one hand it is probably the most famous red lights district with a perfect mix of clubs, bars, concert halls and theaters, and on the other hand it is a melting pot and home for people from all over the world. Last but not least many stars like The Beatles started their career on the Streets of St. Pauli.

The founders Boris Castro and Ale Dumbsky are well-equipped activists that are promoting RADAR HAMBURG with a bright variety of know-how. Castro worked as a traditional businessman in many fields and gathered worldwide contacts and experiences. He started working as an author in 2002 and has produced documentaries since 2005. He experienced the festival circuit as well and had been recently awarded for his feature "Slippin Into Darkness". Dumbsky went through the early School of Punk Rock and made his benefits with a record label and as a publisher. He has organized screenings of rare old and fresh new features for many years.

RADAR HAMBURG is creating a professional environment for visiting filmmakers and a visual adventure for the audience, which put the movie city Hamburg on to another level."
